General MacArthur (1880-1964)
General Douglas MacArthur is one of the most powerful military officers in modern American History. He was the Allied Commander of the Southwest Pacific Theater during World War II and Commander in Chief of the Far East in the postwar period. He accepted Japanese surrender abroad the Missouri on in September 1945 and then acted as supreme commander over the occupation of Japan. Douglas MacArthur was appointed commander of the UN military forces in South Korea at the beginning of the Korean War and at the same time, maintaining his command of Allied Forces in Japan. After driving North Korea back to the 38th parallel, he received President Truman's permission to press into North Korea and Communist China even though there were warnings that this might provoke Chinese intervention. When China did end up intervening, pushing back the UN forces in disarray, MacArthur wanted permission to bomb Chinese bases in Manchuria. However, Truman opposed and when MacArthur made the dispute public, he was removed from Command in April, 1951.
Implications :
In my opinion, he was a great general up until the point where he disobeyed Truman's commands and kept pushing North Korea back near China's border. If he would've stopped and listened then China might've not entered the war. Plus, he made his hate for Truman's command public for the whole world to know. He played a vital role in the war for dragging in China and pushing back North Korea.
