The US believed that if western Europe was strong enough then it would block the spread of communism. Thus, they came up with the Marshall plan that would give economic aid to the western European countries that would strengthen Europe. President Truman who was working closely with two assertive Secretaries of State, took decisive steps to contain Soviet expansion in the regions where the US had a vital interest. The US was about the enter the Cold War.
At the same time, the North Koreans supported communism greatly but the South denied it. In the Korean war, when North Korea suddenly invaded South Korea, the US immediately intervened to help the South because they believed communism was a horrible thing and North Korea was considered the enemy.

The nations were separated on their views of communism. While some countries were taking over others to spread the idea, others were trying to limit the amount of communism. That was one of the main reasons that the war took place.
