My Arguement
In my opinion, I think the Korean War was unnecessary because South and North Korea could've settled the war in a more civil manner instead of using violence. It was unfair that North Korea would suddenly invade their neighbor without any warning at all. Even if there was tension, the South didn't mean for any harm or war. Many lives were lost because it took the two a long time to come to an agreement but even if it did take a long time, it could have been settled with discussions rather than sending in troops. This caused other countries to intervene such as the US, China, and the Soviet Union.
This war influenced the world in many ways. For one, it created a stronger line between countries for communism and countries that were for anticommunism. It also ignited the flame in the Cold War, being the first armed conflict of it all. This caused for the UN Security Council to act so they could fix the broken ties. It was like a test for them and in the end it proved that the US basically took control to get things right because most of the troops and supplies were all from them.
At least in the end, the US was successful in stopping the spread of communism because when they signed the agreement for ceasefire South Korea was left to continue their lives as they pleased. This showed that they did have what it takes to help their allies in need and when they threatened to use nuclear weapons, it also showed they were not to be messed with because if the two would not make up then things weren't going to be looking too good. Nuclear weapons may have been over the line but they had to do whatever it took to get the war over with. South Korea persevered in all of the attacks and in the end, through all of their losses, made it out fine and have recovered much better than North Korea has.
