Introduction
The new Cold War turned for the worst when Communist North Korea invaded anticommunist South Korea. The United States quickly went to aid South Korea by sending in troops for them. The Americans were successful in halting North Korea's advance, driving them out to retreat by launching an amphibious assault far behind enemy lines. On October 1950, it seemed like the US would not only save South Korea, but also liberate North Korea from Communist control as well. Then all of a sudden, Communist Red China launched its own surprise intervention, causing many casualties and eventually driving the Americans far down South. After 1951, there was a stalemate and many battles along the 38th parallel, which was the same line that divided North and South Korea before the war began. The active combat involving American forces in Korea ended in 1953 when there was sign of cease-fire.
